These Fresh Caprese Salad Skewers combine ripe cherry tomatoes, creamy bocconcini, and fresh basil, drizzled with a homemade tangy-sweet balsamic glaze. Perfect for quick appetizers, summer snacks, or entertaining guests.

  • 20 ripe cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 20 bocconcini (baby mozzarella balls), drained and patted dry
  • 20 fresh basil leaves, washed and dried
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt or kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 20 bamboo skewers or toothpicks, soaked in water for 15 minutes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the balsamic glaze: Pour ½ cup (120 ml) balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar and stir gently to combine.
  2. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to a syrupy consistency that coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  3. Rinse and dry the cherry tomatoes. Drain the bocconcini and pat dry with paper towels. Season both lightly with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Gently rinse and dry the basil leaves thoroughly.
  5. Assemble the skewers by threading one cherry tomato, one basil leaf (folded if large), and one bocconcini ball onto each skewer or toothpick. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Lay the skewers on a serving platter.
  7. Just before serving, drizzle the balsamic glaze evenly over the skewers, then lightly drizzle the extra virgin olive oil on top.
  8. Optionally, sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt and a crack of black pepper for extra flavor.

Notes

Dry bocconcini and basil leaves thoroughly to prevent sogginess. Reduce balsamic vinegar on low heat and watch carefully to avoid burning. Drizzle glaze and olive oil just before serving to keep skewers fresh. Bamboo skewers should be soaked if grilling to prevent burning.
