A quick and easy appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves threaded on skewers with a tangy balsamic glaze drizzle. Perfect for any occasion and ready in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini), drained
  • 20 fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • About 20 wooden skewers or toothpicks (soaked in water for 10 minutes if grilling)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves under cold water. Pat them completely dry with paper towels to avoid soggy skewers. Drain the fresh mozzarella balls well.
  2. Take a skewer and thread one cherry tomato first, followed by a fresh basil leaf (folded if large), then a mozzarella ball. Repeat this pattern if you want longer skewers, but one set per skewer is perfect for bite-sized appetizers.
  3. Lay the completed skewers neatly on your serving platter.
  4. Using a spoon or squeeze bottle, gently drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers. Use just enough to add tang without overpowering the fresh ingredients.
  5. Optionally, lightly drizzle extra virgin olive oil over the skewers. Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  6. Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp textures and vivid flavors. If prepping ahead, cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours but add the balsamic glaze just before serving.

Notes

If mozzarella balls are large, slice them in half for balanced skewers. Fold basil leaves if large to prevent tearing. Keep ingredients dry to avoid soggy skewers. Assemble close to serving time. Soak wooden skewers before grilling to prevent burning.
