A stunning, make-ahead Halloween sangria with blood orange juice, red wine, and fresh fruit. This easy party punch is visually striking, not too sweet, and perfect for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle dry red wine (750ml), such as Spanish Tempranillo or French Grenache
  • 1 cup blood orange juice (fresh squeezed or bottled)
  • 1/2 cup orange liqueur (Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier)
  • 1/4 cup honey or simple syrup
  • 1 cup sparkling water or ginger ale
  • 2 blood oranges, thinly sliced
  • 1 navel orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 apple (green or red), thinly sliced
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional)
  • Edible glitter or luster dust (optional)
  • Freeze-dried raspberries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your fruit (10 minutes): Wash all fruit thoroughly. Slice the blood oranges, navel orange, and apple into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick. Leave the seeds in the oranges. Pick out any bruised cranberries and discard them.
  2. Build the base (5 minutes): In your pitcher or punch bowl, combine the red wine, blood orange juice, orange liqueur, and honey. Stir until the honey is fully dissolved.
  3. Add the fruit (5 minutes): Gently add the sliced oranges, apple, cranberries, and cinnamon stick to the liquid. Arrange a few slices against the sides of the pitcher for visual effect. Use a wooden spoon to gently press the fruit a few times to release some juices and oils.
  4. Steep (at least 2 hours, ideally overnight): Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Overnight is better.
  5. Before serving (5 minutes): Remove the pitcher from the refrigerator about 15 minutes before serving. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  6. Add the fizz (immediately before serving): Gently pour in the sparkling water or ginger ale. Stir once, very gently, to combine.
  7. Prepare the serving setup (5 minutes): Fill a separate bowl with ice cubes. Place the sangria pitcher next to it with a ladle. If using a punch bowl, float a large ice ring instead of cubes.
  8. Garnish and serve: If using edible glitter, sprinkle a tiny pinch over the top just before serving. Ladle into glasses, making sure each glass gets some fruit. Add a rosemary sprig to each glass if desired.

Notes

For best results, steep overnight. Add sparkling water just before serving to preserve fizz. For a non-alcoholic version, replace wine with pomegranate juice and black tea. Leftover sangria base (without sparkling water) keeps in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
