This cozy spiced apple cider sangria with cinnamon sticks is the perfect cold-weather drink. It comes together in about 10 minutes of active prep and uses simple ingredients like apple cider, white wine, and cinnamon sticks for a warm, comforting flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup apple brandy or Calvados (optional)
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 large apple (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala)
  • 1 orange
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate seeds (optional)
  • Ice or frozen apple slices (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apple and orange thoroughly. Core the apple and slice into thin rounds or half-moons, about 1/4 inch thick. Slice the orange into thin rounds. If using pomegranate seeds, pop them out.
  2. In a large pitcher, pour the entire bottle of white wine. Add the apple cider and apple brandy (if using). Stir gently with a wooden spoon.
  3. If using sweetener, drizzle in honey or maple syrup and stir until fully dissolved.
  4. Add the cinnamon sticks, sliced apple, orange rounds, and pomegranate seeds. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
  6. While the sangria rests, make apple cider ice cubes by pouring apple cider into an ice cube tray and freezing for at least 4 hours. Alternatively, freeze apple slices in a single layer.
  7. When ready to serve, fill glasses with apple cider ice cubes or frozen apple slices. Pour sangria over the ice, ensuring each glass gets some fruit and a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best flavor, let the sangria rest overnight. Toast cinnamon sticks in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side before adding for deeper flavor. If making ahead, remove fruit after 24 hours and add fresh fruit before serving. This sangria can also be served warm by gently heating in a saucepan over medium-low heat for 5-7 minutes.
