A creamy, spicy, and cheesy buffalo chicken dip topped with a sour cream spider web design. This easy appetizer comes together in under 30 minutes and is perfect for Halloween parties, game day gatherings, or any occasion where you want to impress without the stress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded (rotisserie chicken recommended)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup buffalo wing sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot)
  • ½ cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, freshly shredded
  • ½ cup sour cream (for spider web design)
  • ¼ cup green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Plastic spider rings (optional, for decoration)
  • Extra buffalo sauce drizzle (optional)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Let cream cheese soften at room temperature or microwave in 10-second bursts until soft.
  2. Shred cooked chicken using two forks or your hands to get about 3 cups. If using rotisserie chicken, remove skin first.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo wing sauce, and ranch dressing. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  4. Add shredded cheddar, shredded mozzarella, and shredded chicken to the bowl. Mix until evenly distributed. Taste and adjust buffalo sauce if desired.
  5. Spoon the mixture into a greased 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish (or similar oven-safe dish). Spread into an even layer and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes, until hot and bubbly around the edges. Do not overbake to prevent separation.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool for about 2 minutes. Spoon sour cream into a small zip-top bag, snip a tiny corner, and drizzle concentric circles from the center outward (about 4-5 circles). Using a toothpick or knife tip, drag lines from the center outward through all circles to create a web pattern. Wipe the toothpick clean between each line.
  8. Sprinkle sliced green onions over the top. Add plastic spider rings if desired. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, celery sticks, or other dippers.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and freshly shredded cheese. Draw the spider web right before serving to prevent the sour cream from melting into the dip. The dip can be prepared a day in advance (without the web) and baked before serving. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, microwave individual portions for 30-60 seconds or reheat the whole batch in a 350°F oven for 10-12 minutes. The dip freezes well for up to 3 months without the sour cream web.
