A playful and spooky Halloween dip board featuring creamy guacamole, tangy salsa with olive spiders, and crunchy dippers. Perfect for festive gatherings and easy to prepare in about 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe avocados, mashed
  • 1 small lime, juiced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup fresh tomatoes, finely diced (or canned diced tomatoes)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 cup black olives, pitted and sliced into halves and strips
  • Toothpicks
  • Tortilla chips
  • Sliced bell peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Carrot sticks
  • Optional: small bowls of sour cream or queso for additional dips

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a large mixing bowl. Using a fork or potato masher, mash until creamy but still chunky. Add the lime juice immediately to prevent browning. (About 5 minutes)
  2. Stir in the finely chopped red onion, cilantro, jalapeño (if using), salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning. (3-5 minutes)
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, red onion, cilantro, garlic, cumin, lime juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  4. Slice black olives in halves for the bodies and thin strips for the legs. Using toothpicks, carefully attach the legs on either side of the olive halves to create spider legs. Place the olive halves as the spider’s body on top of the salsa bowl, letting the legs rest on the rim or salsa surface. (10 minutes)
  5. On your serving platter or wooden board, place a medium bowl filled with guacamole in the center. Surround it with the salsa bowl decorated with olive spiders. Arrange the tortilla chips and fresh veggie sticks around the dips invitingly. (5 minutes)
  6. Add any optional dips like sour cream in small bowls, and scatter extra cilantro leaves or lime wedges for garnish and color contrast. (2 minutes)

Notes

Avoid over-mashing avocados to keep guacamole chunky. Let salsa rest for 10 minutes to blend flavors. Use plastic wrap pressed on guacamole surface to prevent browning. If olive spiders fall apart, place them near salsa bowl instead of on it. Prepare guacamole and salsa up to 4 hours ahead; add spiders just before serving.
