This Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte is faster than driving to a café, cheaper than you’d think, and tastes better. It’s a quick and easy recipe that comes together in under 5 minutes, using simple ingredients for a creamy, balanced fall drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk (whole milk recommended, or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree (100% pure, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (or maple syrup/honey)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure vanilla extract recommended)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (store-bought or homemade blend)
  • 1 shot (1 ounce / 30 ml) espresso (or 1/2 cup strongly brewed coffee)
  • Whipped cream (for topping, optional)
  • Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup (240 ml) milk and 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree. Whisk continuously until steaming but not boiling, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Whisk in 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice. Continue whisking for 30 seconds until fully dissolved and smooth.
  3. While milk is warming, pull 1 shot of espresso (about 1 ounce / 30 ml) into your mug. If using strong brewed coffee, pour about 1/2 cup (120 ml) instead.
  4. Pour the warm pumpkin-milk mixture over the espresso in the mug. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg. Serve immediately.

Notes

For the homemade pumpkin pie spice blend: mix 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 2 teaspoons ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves, and 1/2 teaspoon allspice. Store in a small jar. If your latte tastes too thin, blend the pumpkin with a tablespoon of hot milk first to make a paste, then add the rest. For the perfect foam without a frother, shake warm milk in a mason jar for 30 seconds, then microwave (lid off) for 30 seconds.
