A quick and easy 20-minute ground beef bowl featuring a rich honey garlic butter sauce served over fluffy rice, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80% lean)
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) honey
  • 3 tablespoons (45ml) soy sauce
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Cook 1 cup (190g) dry rice according to package instructions (about 15-20 minutes). Fluff with a fork and keep warm.
  2. While rice cooks, mince garlic and slice green onions. Measure honey and soy sauce.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook 6-8 minutes, breaking up with a spatula, until no pink remains and beef is browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Reduce heat to medium. Push beef to one side and add butter. Once melted, add garlic and sauté about 30 seconds until fragrant without burning.
  5. Stir butter and garlic into beef. Add honey and soy sauce, mixing well. Cook 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens and coats beef.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add red pepper flakes if desired. Stir in sliced green onions.
  7. Spoon warm rice into bowls and top with the honey garlic butter ground beef mixture. Garnish with extra green onions or sesame seeds if available.

Notes

Keep butter cold until last minute to prevent burning. Stir constantly after adding honey to avoid sticking. If sauce thickens too much, add a splash of water or broth. Do not overcrowd pan when browning beef to ensure proper browning.
