This Quick Sparkling Holiday Sangria with Pomegranate is a festive, bubbly cocktail that comes together in just 10 minutes. With pomegranate juice, sparkling wine, and fresh fruit, it’s the perfect easy drink for holiday parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (475 ml) pomegranate juice (100% pure, like POM Wonderful)
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry sparkling wine or Champagne (Brut or Prosecco), chilled
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced into rounds
  • 1 large pomegranate, seeds removed (about 1 cup arils)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) simple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • Ice as needed
  • Optional garnishes: fresh mint sprigs, cinnamon sticks, or rosemary sprigs

Instructions

  1. Prep the pomegranate: Fill a small bowl with water. Cut the pomegranate in half horizontally. Hold one half cut-side down over the bowl and smack the back firmly with a wooden spoon. The seeds will fall into the water; skim off the white pith. Drain seeds and set aside.
  2. Slice the orange: Wash the orange well. Slice into thin rounds, about 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Cut rounds in half if desired. Remove any seeds.
  3. Combine juice and liqueur: In a large pitcher, pour in the pomegranate juice and orange liqueur. Stir gently. Add simple syrup if using and stir. Taste and adjust sweetness.
  4. Add fruit: Drop in the orange slices and about half of the pomegranate seeds. Reserve the rest for garnish. Stir gently.
  5. Chill (optional but recommended): Refrigerate the pitcher for 30 minutes to let flavors meld. If in a rush, skip this step.
  6. Add bubbly: Just before serving, slowly pour the chilled sparkling wine into the pitcher. Stir very gently once or twice to combine.
  7. Serve immediately: Fill glasses with ice. Pour sangria over ice, ensuring each glass gets some orange slices and pomegranate seeds. Garnish with extra seeds and mint or cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Do not add sparkling wine until ready to serve to keep bubbles. Chill all ingredients beforehand. For a non-alcoholic version, use sparkling cider or non-alcoholic sparkling wine and extra orange juice instead of liqueur. Leftovers keep refrigerated for 2 days but will lose carbonation.
