These quick spooky Halloween spider cookies are the perfect last-minute treat for busy parents and Halloween enthusiasts. Made with chocolate sandwich cookies, pretzel sticks, and melting chocolate, they come together in under 20 minutes and are sure to be a crowd-pleaser at any Halloween gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 chocolate sandwich cookies (regular size, not double-stuffed)
  • 1 cup dark or semi-sweet melting chocolate wafers
  • 48 thin pretzel sticks
  • 48 small candy eyeballs
  • White icing pen (optional)
  • Orange or purple sprinkles (optional)
  • Edible glitter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Have your cookies, pretzel sticks, and candy eyeballs within easy reach.
  2. Break the pretzel sticks: Snap each pretzel stick in half to get pieces roughly 2 inches long. Set aside about 48 pieces.
  3. Melt the chocolate: Place melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each interval, until smooth and glossy (about 1-2 minutes total).
  4. Dip the cookies: Working one cookie at a time, dip the top of each chocolate sandwich cookie into the melted chocolate. Use an offset spatula or butter knife to spread the chocolate evenly across the surface. Place each coated cookie on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Add the legs: Wait about 2 minutes after coating each cookie before adding the pretzel legs. Gently press two pretzel pieces into the chocolate on each side of the cookie, angling them slightly outward so they look like spider legs (four legs on each side).
  6. Add the eyes: While the chocolate is still soft but not runny (about 2-3 minutes after coating), use tweezers to place two candy eyeballs on each spider, positioned close together near the front of the cookie.
  7. Let them set: Allow the spiders to set at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes, or refrigerate for 5-10 minutes if in a hurry. The chocolate should be firm to the touch and the legs should not wiggle.
  8. Add optional details: Once the chocolate is fully set, use a white icing pen to draw tiny fangs or a web design around the spiders if desired.

Notes

For best results, let the chocolate set for about 2 minutes after coating the cookie before adding the pretzel legs to prevent them from sliding. Use tweezers to place the candy eyeballs for precision. Work in batches of 6-8 cookies to ensure the chocolate doesn’t thicken too much. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
