This spooky Halloween punch is the centerpiece of your party, featuring a dramatic dry ice fog effect that billows from the bowl. It’s incredibly easy to make with simple fruit juices and soda, and the flavor is a perfectly balanced sweet-tart and fizzy blend that everyone loves.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (32 ounces) cranberry juice
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) pineapple juice
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) orange juice
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) lemonade
  • 2 cups (16 ounces) ginger ale
  • 2 to 3 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Optional: gummy worms, plastic spiders, frozen berries, or a ring of ice made with juice and fruit

Instructions

  1. Mix the Juices (5 minutes): In a large pitcher or mixing bowl, combine the cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, and lemonade. Stir well until fully combined. The mixture should be a deep, dark ruby red. Taste it—it should be tart and sweet, with a bright citrus note. If it’s too tart, add a tablespoon of simple syrup or a splash of extra pineapple juice.
  2. Chill the Mixture (2 hours minimum): Place the pitcher of mixed juice in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight. This is crucial for a slow, dramatic fog show.
  3. Prepare the Punch Bowl (5 minutes): Just before your party starts, take your punch bowl out. Optionally, freeze a ring of ice using some of the juice mixture and a few gummy worms. Place the ice ring in the bottom of the punch bowl.
  4. Combine the Punch (2 minutes): Pour the chilled juice mixture into the punch bowl. Then, slowly pour in the ginger ale. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Add the Dry Ice (Immediately before serving): Put on heatproof gloves or use tongs. Carefully remove the dry ice from its container. Break it into smaller chunks (about the size of a golf ball) using a hammer or the back of a heavy knife. Do this on a hard surface, and wear safety glasses if possible.
  6. Create the Fog (1 minute): Using tongs, carefully drop 2 to 3 chunks of dry ice into the punch bowl. Do not add the entire block at once. Within seconds, thick, white fog will pour from the surface and cascade down the sides. Critical Safety Warning: Never let anyone put dry ice in their mouth or drink a piece of it. Always serve with a ladle, and make sure the dry ice has completely sublimated before serving a cup. For a 2-hour party, add more dry ice every 30-45 minutes.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Use a ladle to pour the punch into cups. Make sure no pieces of dry ice end up in the cups. Garnish each cup with a gummy worm or a plastic spider for an extra creepy touch.

Notes

Chill everything—juice mixture, ginger ale, even the punch bowl—for the best fog effect. The colder the liquid, the slower the dry ice sublimates, giving a beautiful low-lying fog. Never store dry ice in an airtight container; keep it in a paper bag or cooler with the lid slightly open. Always use food-grade dry ice and never touch it with bare hands. The juice mixture can be made up to 3 days in advance.
