An easy, customizable walking tacos recipe served in Frito chip bags, perfect for kids’ parties and casual meals. Quick to make and mess-free, it’s a crowd-pleaser packed with seasoned ground beef, cheese, and toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended, can substitute ground turkey)
  • 6 individual bags Frito corn chips
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 1 cup salsa
  • ½ cup chopped green onions
  • ½ cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or 2 tablespoons homemade taco seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and break apart with a wooden spoon or spatula. Cook until no longer pink and browned, about 6–7 minutes.
  2. Drain excess fat from the beef. Return skillet to heat, sprinkle taco seasoning over beef, add ¼ cup water, stir well, and simmer for 2 minutes until sauce thickens.
  3. Warm refried beans in a small saucepan or microwave until spreadable.
  4. Open Frito bags carefully, leaving them intact. Arrange shredded cheese, chopped green onions, salsa, and sour cream in serving bowls for assembly.
  5. Spoon about ¾ cup of warm refried beans into the bottom of each chip bag. Add a scoop of seasoned ground beef on top.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese, then add green onions and salsa. Finish with a dollop of sour cream if desired.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

Do not overfill the chip bags to avoid spills; about ¾ cup filling per bag is ideal. Use fresh toppings for best flavor. Drain beef well to prevent soggy chips. Assemble just before serving to keep chips crunchy. Sour cream is optional and can be added after eating most of the filling to reduce mess.
